Hi! I’m Josh.

I started The Pop Cultist a long time ago in a pop culture galaxy that feels far, far away these days. The year was 2012, I was an entertainment-obsessed millennial and I was dreaming of a career in journalism while toiling away as a technical writer. I created this site as a way to blog about the pop culture stuff that mattered to me, and over time I published many comic and movie reviews alongside more in-depth pieces.

Ultimately I let it fall off as I finally made my journalism dream a reality and transitioned into a news writer in Toronto. I spent eight years as an online journalist with CTV News and Global News in Canada before landing an editor role at Narcity, a small new media site where I was free to try just about any idea I could think of.

I took that freedom and used it to carve out a piece of pop culture for myself. I began to cover the movies and TV shows I loved, and before long I was interviewing the actors and directors who made those films and shows. From Ben Affleck and The Rock to the Stranger Things cast and several Avengers stars, I used my gig at Narcity to cover all the entertainment topics I’d only dreamed of a few years prior.

Now, I’m reviving this site with a decade of experience and hundreds of interviews under my belt – and I’m ready to remake The Pop Cultist into something fresh for 2024.

Expect entertainment news, analysis, features and maybe even a few celebrity interviews in this space. And if you really dig the content, let me know so I can give you more of it.

So please, sign up. Stick with me. Pledge yourself to the Cult, because I can’t wait to show you what’s in store for the years ahead.
